Blanket Chic - Outdoor Dining in Autumn

Outdoor dining at The Chester Hotel…bring a blanket and enjoy the hottest venue in town!

As Aberdeen’s most stylish venue, we always have our finger on the pulse of the latest trends: from the hottest interiors to Insta-worthy food, we lead where others follow.

And this A/W20 season, the fashion-forward Chester Hotel brings you the very latest in Covid chic. With inspiration drawn from the ever-changing landscape of official government advice and the autumnal hues of our natural outdoor environment, we bring you…the blanket.

Worn over the knee, off the shoulder or wrapped around the body, the blanket is this season’s must-have accessory. Indeed, no self-respecting fashionista should be without one when visiting our outdoor dining space. A rare combination of style and practicality, the blanket is here to stay...for the next two weeks at least.

As you may already be aware, the latest Scottish Government guidelines in the fight to stop the spread of coronavirus allows us to serve food and drink – including alcohol – at our outside marquee from 12pm until 10pm.

Although we believe that true style is timeless, we have had to jump on the fast fashion bandwagon to stay on trend with local licensing and environmental health requirements. In order to comply with guidance over outside spaces, we’ve had to ensure that 50% of the marquee remains open to the elements.

While outdoor patio-style heaters can provide limited warmth, it’s pretty impossible to heat fresh air and while we’d love to be able to provide our guests with cosy throws, the current guidelines don’t allow for this to happen. So, if you are planning on visiting our outside dining, please don’t leave home without your blanket!

The most wonderful thing about blankets is the sheer number of stylish options available. Whether it’s a tartan rug, teddy bear fleece or luxury cashmere, there are so many ways to make an individual style statement.

Want to rep the region’s most famous product? Head online to the quirky and cool Café Press and browse its selection of plush throws celebrating Aberdeen Angus cattle.

Looking for a little luxury? Look no further than the iconic Johnstons of Elgin – supplier to high end fashion brands including Burberry and Chanel. Simply stunning and oozing quality…just be careful with the ketchup.

Do you put practicality over fashion? Then the Slanket  is the one for you! It’s a blanket with sleeves – a throw-cum-jumper, if you will. Simply slip your arms inside the sleeves and stay cosy while tucking into whatever exquisite dish our kitchen team has created for you.

It’s never too early to develop a sense of style, and our younger guests might want to head to Copper and Grey – which has branches in Banchory and Aberdeen - to get kitted up for alfresco dining. These gorgeous baby blankets are cosy, comfy and above all else cute!

So now you have your blanket, when can you visit? The hotel is now closed on Mondays and Tuesdays for all food and drink

During the rest of the week, our indoor bars will be open for food and non-alcoholic drinks only from 12noon until 6pm (last table bookings at 4pm). Our outdoor dining marquee will be open from Wednesday to Sunday from 12noon until 10pm (last table bookings at 8pm). Under the new regulations, we will be able to sell alcohol in the outdoors space.

Whether you are dining inside or outside, you will need to book your table on line here – we also suggest you look at the Autumn 2020 page  on our website before booking with us so you know what to expect. One final thing to note, our stylish hotel bedrooms will be closed from October 11 to 13 and again from October 18 to 20.

We thank all our customers for being so patient with us as we continually adapt to these ever-changing rules: it’s not been easy, but your positivity has helped to keep us smiling throughout these last few months. When we were predicting 2020 style trends someone actually said that they thought winter alfresco eating and drinking would become a thing…oh how we laughed!
